Our purpose is to promote the game of Tennis, to provide for organization of Tennis activities here at the Plantation, and to assist players in the promotion and instruction of the game.
Tennis at the Plantation at Leesburg (PAL) gives players of all levels many opportunities for formal and informal play. All organized play (i.e., tournaments, inter-community and socials) is through membership in the Plantation Tennis Association (PTA).
The courts at the Manor are available for "Open/Rotation Play" Mondays through Thursdays and Saturdays starting at 8 am. Open play is for anyone who wishes to play in a relaxed atmosphere, regardless of ability or experience. Come to the courts and start rotating in.
The Tennis Association was formed in 1996 with approximately 30 members. The PTA has grown with the PAL over the years. Each year the PTA plans and organizes tournaments, social events and inter-community competitions against similar local communities. PTA membership is only $15.
Benefits include:
Eligibility to participate in PTA sponsored monthly tournaments (with balls provided).
Eligibility to attend monthly luncheons.
Eligibility to schedule and reserve court times.
Eligibility to win prizes or receive sports apparel at several tournaments.
Eligibility participate in PTA meetings and vote on association matters.
All eight courts are lighted for evening play. There is a practice backboard at the Manor and lessons can be arranged for those interested members. Consult Ellen Story, the PTA new member liaison for more information about lessons.
The PTA is governed by nine council members, each of whom serve two-year terms. Five members are elected in odd years and four in even years. The 2023 council members are Larry Hipkins, Mike Kimble, Barb Carpenter, Phil Ekern, Sherry Young, David Peach, Mike Sadler and Ellen Story.
The council is responsible for electing its officers and directors, establishing a calendar of events for the coming year, scheduling meetings to implement the functions of the PTA, establishing an annual budget and establishing policy and procedures to manage the day-to-day operations of the PTA.
